pdf.png “Income Generating Projects” as a development intervention of government: A case of government funded Agricultural Projects in Limpopo 2011 HOT

Download

This chapter describes the role of income generation projects as a development intervention of government. Biographical data showed that there are issues associated with capacity of project beneficiaries relating to age, gender, and highest level passed and training received to manage the project as most of them were ages 55 and above, female and no tertiary education. It also emerged from inputs of participants that although there was no significant income generated (a salary of less than R200 per month to each member) by most of the projects, they do contribute to poverty alleviation as reflected by the ability of project beneficiaries to provide for basic needs of their family through work in the project.Recommendations are that future feasibility studies should take into consideration the capacity and succession in relation to ages and strength of probable beneficiaries;participatory planning and regular engagement with project beneficiaries including planned continuous support and nurturing. Mechanism should also be put in place for participatory monitoring and evaluation.

pdf.png Impact Bond (IB) Landscape Study: An Exploration of Impact Bonds for Results Focused SME/SE Development 2015 HOT

(1 vote)

Download

The purpose of this landscape study is two‐fold. Firstly, it aims to provide an understanding of the current state of Impact Bond (IB) work in South  Africa and on the rest of the African continent and how it pertains to Small, Medium and Micro‐Enterprises, especially those involved in social impact (i.e. Social Enterprises). Secondly, by reviewing Impact Bonds globally, the research strives to provide insights into future applications of IBs involving small businesses in South Africa across various sectors. This research will hopefully assist government officials and researchers in using and generating evidence to inform policy making, as well as addressing the implementation challenge of more inclusive and sustainable economic growth and job creation in our country.
