This paper is one of seven country case studies that was prepared as part of a DFIDf unded study Leaving no-one behind: how social protection can help people with disabilities move out of extreme poverty. This study included a visit to South Africa between 7th – 18th November 2016 by Stephen Kidd and Lorraine Wapling during which they undertook a range of interviews. The study was supported by a review of the literature and analysis of the General Household Survey dataset for 2015, undertaken by Diloá Bailey-Athias. Anh Tran provided support undertaking background research.
