The study used a mixture of household interviews and focus group discussions to investigate the sources of livelihood within the province, in order to identify intervention points for local government in a bid to address job creation and poverty as a whole. A total of 1 969 households were interviewed across the six district municipalities and two Metro municipalities. Further, 10 focus groups were conducted across the province. Local economic development (LED) practitioners in municipalities and councillors were also interviewed.
