Moving Out and Moving In: Evidence of Short-Term Household Change in South Africa from the National Income Dynamics Study Moving Out and Moving In: Evidence of Short-Term Household Change in South Africa from the National Income Dynamics Study

Household change is prevalent in South Africa. During just a 2-year period from 2009 to 2011, 10.5% of South Africans moved residence and, including these, 61.3% experienced a change in household composition. This paper uses longitudinal data from NIDS (the National Income Dynamics Study) to document and examine these trends, focusing in particular on differences between race groups.
